So, my brother is just a fabulous little person. He’s been dancing since he could walk and has been extremely successful in the Muny and just dancing with my studio…
At school, for the black history program, his music teacher picked a group of girls to do a dance piece. None of the boys were going to be in the program at all. He’s been dancing longer than all of those girls and wasn’t picked for the group simply because he was a boy and the teacher assumed that only the girls would want to dance.
My bro would always watched them, learning the whole combination. Then one day, he went up to the teacher and asked if he could be part of the show too. She was surprised that a little boy wanted to dance in a big group of girls, but accepted him into the cast.
I’m so proud of my little brother for standing up against his teacher’s subconscious gender separation. Good luck tonight Reuby Tuesday!
